14th

Sweet child o mine.

Whacked the bass drum up so it was distinctive in the mix, by turning the level up on the sampler.
Re-mastered in logic, adding an EQ, lightly boosting both high and low shelf. I added a noise gate to remove some unwanted noise. Added an expander to widen the song and an exciter for some extra punch.

Structurally i had to go back to the reason file and remove some crashes as they sounded like metal blips as for some reason the high end clashed with another sound, cancelling out the crash.

Scanned through colourless colour today to hear for the vocal line faults lloyd told me about, because i've changed the lead voice, i have had to touch up on all the vocal line notes, making sure that they don't slur. admittedly, i've used a preset for my lead line, i have EQ'd it and split it left and right in 2 channels in the mixer to widen the sound.

I had a little time left after this and looked at a bit of o sweet child, and i simply turned the output level up on this as it was too quiet. That's todays work.

finished song off structurally today. Completed the breakdown section by adding the main riff an octave lower in a different, bassier synth as this could be heard from the original. Also from the original, i heard a different sound coming from the main lead so i created this, it was a kind of undertone or it could of possibly been the synth they were using and had an after-effect on it. Either way i duplicated my main synth and made the new one a bit more growly and turned the volume down so it didn't mess up with the original synth riff but could be barely noticed as it was played.

added in structural changes to the breakdown section such as the hi hats ect and i turned up the volume on the bass. Copied bars 25-38 and placed them after the breakdown, added in a few notes to the vocal line and voila, piece complete.

Need to edit my main vocal sound as it "mixes in with my other synths too much." Have started to combat this problem, i tried detuning the sound but that made it sound awful. So instead i have eq'd and mastered the sound by use of an EQ, Maximiser and stereo imager. Widening up the sound, solo'ing the high end and jacking the high end up.

Started mastering oh sweet child in logic properly, added some equalisers and just messed around with effects to make the sound more punchy and prominant. Logic file is saved for more detail ect.

On colourless colour i did nothing really apart from a structural mistake i made in the breakdown part.

Finished the piece off today. i started by beefing the drums up in the chorus with some parallel distortion. simply made a mixer which ran through a scream unit and split the drum channels in 2 to create a beefier sound.

Also i added some drum run ups, purposely putting a snare a semiquaver before the on beat notes to build tension toward the build up.

I couldn't find a way to change the pitch of everything, so i had to automate every pitch bend on the combinators that i had, which wasn't as bad as i thought and it turned out perfectly.

to finish the piece off, i decided to simply fade everything out with the masters on individual mixer channels and then a nice crash at the end.

12th jan

Started today by editing the panning on the hi hats and other high end drum sounds, turns out panning is fine and i have created a good effect with the slight left pan with delay to the right.

Edited the hand clap as it had too much reverb. On the re-drum (sampler) i changed the wave form to pulse i think which means that the sample is only played as long as the note is held and i fine tuned the sound so that there was as little reverb without it sounding like the sample was cut off to early.

I somehow edited the trancey pluck by accident but now at least it sounds a little more cheesy for the synth pop style.

Edited the main poly synth so that it hasn't got as much frequency (the fuzzy sound which i like) to make it sound less trancey and more solid. I automated it to increase the frequency later for musical variation.

At the moment i'm working on trying to transpose the piece off, i have put this task off for today as i want to go home and experiment as i really don't fancy automating every single combinator (10+ in total) to have the exact same pitch bend.

40 minute time slot. worked on o-sweet child

Nothing much to structural changes, for the delay lead i decided to try add in a bit of the verse which doesn't fit the mix well and i will adjust.

EQ'd the high parts of the drum kit, the hi hats, cymbals ect. There is a panning issue, these drums are too far left and panning down on redrum simply kills the sound, to counter this i made a DDL delay line repeat them in the right speaker but as i write this i suddenly realised i can pan on the main mixer so that's what i'll be doing next lesson...

Changed the clap sound, will have to get lloyds opinion on whether it's too dancey or not. Reverb issue on the clap, need to sort that out.

Overall i just need Lloyd to check if my piece is still not 'trancey' and then ask for advice whether i should do another section or just finish the piece off, am up to 1 min and 44 seconds at the moment.
